Carving this 12" X 7' mantel was a spare time project. It was carved over a five year period giving me the opportunity to explore new texturing and color techniques. When the project was completed my son named it SHELTERED YOUTH. When he saw it, it invoked in him the sense of security that the shelter of the forest provides.
